Career in Optometry - Enroll for a Bachelors course

Optometry deals with the care of the eye and vision system. A person educated and clinically trained in the science of optometry is called an optometrist. The responsibilities of an optometrist include examining the eye, diagnosing the problem, prescribing and providing medicine and corrective treatment. One of the courses is - Bachelor of Optometry. An optometrist is also called an eye doctor. This is a four-year UGC approved course. The course includes one year of clinical training. The course provides the knowledge and the skills required to be a professional in the field.

  • The course teaches the analytical, conceptual and practical skills to the candidates which are required for an optometrist, researcher and academician.

Eligibility and admission

The candidates need a minimum of 40% marks in the XII science in physics, chemistry, biology or mathematics subjects.

For the reservation category (SC/ST/OBC/minor) the candidate requires a minimum of 35% marks in the PCB or PCBM.

For admission to the second year (Lateral entry)
The candidates need to complete two years of academic and one year of clinical internship in  diploma in optometry course. The course should be recognized by the university.

For admission to first year the candidates need to apply. This can be done online too. The selected candidates are called for an entrance exam and a personal interview as per the guidelines given by DMER.
